Sustainable Jewellery with Nodos

What is sustainable jewellery?

Sustainable jewellery, just like sustainable fashion, has been conquering the market in recent years, supporting and prioritising environmental care and social responsibility in the fight agaisnt the fast fashion.

Sustainable jewellery is created using eco-friendly or recycled materials, avoiding environmental exploitation. However, this isn’t the only thing that makes jewellery sustainable. To encompass all pillars of sustainability, brands and designers bet on artisanal techniques that ensure product quality, boost local communities, and minimise carbon footprint.

Sustainable jewellery and fashion are gaining ground every day, transforming consumer habits and fostering innovation in the design of eco-friendly, durable products.

What makes our jewellery sustainable?

The base of our products is potato starch. Potato starch is a polysaccharide—a long chain of glucose molecules that the potato plant stores as energy.

How is our eco-friendly jewellery created?

Potato starch is extracted by crushing potatoes and separating the starch granules via centrifugation—capturing the plant’s energetic essence. This starch then undergoes a multi-stage transformation process to become Polylactic Acid (PLA), our eco-friendly jewellery base.

Organic additives: Adding flexibility to your jewellery so it endures without breaking.

Pigments: Allow us to introduce metallic tones, purples, and magentas. In sustainable jewellery design, we prioritise mineral oxides or natural micas—100% safe and brilliantly lustrous.

Crafted at high temperatures, the biomaterial gains a stunning metallic shine and impressive strength—yet feels surprisingly light, like a feather. This innovative process ensures our earrings, necklaces, and all the design pieces are ultra-lightweight and exceptionally comfortable.

Sustainable 3D-Printed Jewellery in Madrid

To preserve our designer jewellery’s human touch and artisanal charm, every 3D-printed piece receives a hand-finished touch in our Madrid workshop.

In the video, we showcase the creation process of the Mengua Earrings—one of NODOS’ most iconic 3D-printed jewellery pieces.

Inspired by lunar phases, each earring is 3D-printed in plant-based biodegradable PLA, hand-polished, and precisely assembled for a smooth metallic finish.
